2019 POWER RANKINGS: Week 11 | July 28th- By The Numbers

Following the conclusion of each Sunday and before the arrival of the next game day, the 2019 Weekly Power Rankings will highlight the successes of the various teams throughout our league. The rankings take into account a variety of stats and scenarios regardless of the divisional home of each team. The rankings are not a prediction of who would win in a head to head matchup nor are they exclusively ranked based on seasonal statistics. A hot streak or tournament success can launch a team on the cusp into contention while a series of setbacks could knock any club, even one in top spot in their division, from the ranks. Good luck!

2021 POWER RANKINGS- WEEKS #8
1)TAILGATORS
(9-0-2)
D5While their record isn't perfect, the Tailgators are the only team entering Week 9 with an undefeated season still on the table. After blasting the Misfits to take the season series 2-0-1, the only club standing in their way of an undefeated run are double tough Diamond Cutters squad. The Diamond cutters dropped a close game to #2 Glo-balls last Sunday and have played their opponents tough this season. The Gators have already clinched the division, but a back step on Sunday will swing the door wide-open for a Cinderella story at the expense of the Gators- similar to the tale this club weaved last season to finish the year as the Division 4 Champions.-
2)ATHLETICS
(10-1-0)
D2Leap frogging into the #2 spot, the Athletics faced a daunting pair of opponents last Sunday. After defeating Brokebat Mountain over just 5-innings, they turned their attention to the hottest team in the division. Dirt & Diamonds had previously got the jump on the A's back in Week 6, but were undone by the rain. The Athletics clearly took notice and avoided a similar start. With the 9-run win, the Green-side clinch the D2 regular season title. They will take their game to Gorman Rupp to meet Downtown Auto Glass S.O.P. this Sunday before gearing up for a run at a 2nd City Championships title in as many seasons. 1
3)ABUSEMENT PARK
(10-1-0)
D4Despite their dominant run and impressive Sunday effort, Abusement Park falls to #3 on our list. A.P. entered the weekend with their sights set on the D4 Regular Season title. Their strong performance and a little unexpected help allowed them to walked away from Sunday with the title clinched a week earlier then expected. A early win over the Jokers set the stage for a showdown with I'd Hit That. Unfortunately, Railway City Brew Crew had ended I'd Hit That's undefeated season a game earlier- taking a little shine off of the Parker's victory. Regardless of the scenario surrounding the triumph, Abusement Park is now the firm D4 favourite- but rematches with IHT and the equally as strong Insanity are certainly in the cards. The improving Railway City Brew also poses a challenge this Sunday.1
4)POPATOP
(9-1-1)
D1The defending D1 City Champions are a win away from clinching their first Regular Season title. PopATop took down Fan of the Sport to earn their 4th straight win and maintain a single point lead over the 2nd placed New Wave. To close out Sunday night, PAP will take on New Wave at 7pm with the division title on the line. PopATop holds the best run differential in the top division and the #3 spot across the 42-team league. While this Sunday's matchup could offer a preview of the 2021 D1 Championship game, the injection of the Pirates into the mix will force the PopATop to bring their A game if they wish to be in a position to defend their crown just over a week from now. 2
5)NO BASE LIKE HOME
(9-2-0)
D3From a team that was struggling to build a pre-season roster, No Base Like Home has risen through the ranks to be crowned the official D3 Regular Season winners. Their success is even more impressive considering the quality of opposition including multiple teams that have done well at the Division 3 level including The O's, Smash N Dash, and the Jayhawks. The Home squad will close the season against Scared Hitless and then look to the posting of their Tournament group- which will no doubt feature a couple of tough draws. While one task is mathematically in the books, the tallest order of all- the D3 City title is still a mile or two down the yellow brick road. 3
6)NEW WAVE
(9-2-0)
D1After getting bounced from the ranks a week ago, New Wave returns on the strength of a much-needed win over the Pirates. Erasing a 1-run deficit in the top of the 7th, NW managed to fend off a late charge from the Bucs and hold on for a 16-14 victory. Despite the win, the Pirates took the season series by a count of 2-1 and are a combined 2-2-1 against the top 2 Division 1 clubs. Their +1 run differential over those 5 games indicates how close these matchups have been. New Wave will now turn their attention to defending their 2020 D1 regular season title with an aforementioned Sunday night meeting against PopATop. They defeated PAP 12-7 back in Week 3 and hold a 3-2 to edge in the overall series- with all 3 victories coming during the regular season. NEW-
7)ONE HIT WONDERS
(7-3-1)
D2Back on the list, One Hit Wonders upended Dirt & Diamonds by just a single run to kick off D2 play last Sunday. They will enter this Sunday in a battle for 2nd place with Brokebat Mountain. The winner of that game will clinch the #2 spot and headline Group B for the big show, but with a loss and a Dirt & Diamonds victory over Bat Attitudes- a tumble to 4th spot is more than likely. The 4th placed club will slot into Group A along with the Athletics to open pool play on Friday and Saturday. One Hit Wonders defeated Brokebat 15-14 back in Week 4 and they are 3-0 all-time in their head to head regular season matchups. This games expects to be a close, back and forth affair that will most likely be decided in the final innings. NEW-
8)I'D HIT THAT
(8-2-1)
D4With a tough trio of games last Sunday, I'd Hit That put forth a valiant effort but the load of holding top spot from the start to the finish of the Season proved too much. A 2-run loss to the fast climbing Railway City Brew Crew was followed by another close setback against Abusement Park. Later in the day, IHT turned it around with a win over Elgin's Backyard Burgers. With 17-points, a tie for 2nd place with Insanity is on the table, but if both clubs win this weekend- I'd Hit That will have to settle for 3rd spot based on a lesser run differential. The #3 spot will force the purple side into a tougher tournament draw that could include #4 B.P. Ballers and one of Wanna Bats, Sinner & A Saint, or Bucks and Broads in what will most likely be titled the D4 "Group of Death".4
9)INSANTIY
(8-2-1)
D4Similar to the #8 team on our list, Week 8 was not kind to Insanity. A shorthanded upset loss to Elgin's Backyard Burgers ended Insanity's shot at the top spot in Division 4. With 2nd still in their control, the deranged clowns will need to overcome a key injury and secure a win this Sunday over Hit Squad to lock up an impressive 9-win season. As their attention shifts to the City Championships, the expected top team in Group B will face a challenge from potential groupmate Railway City Brew Crew. Insanity beat Brew Crew 15-2 back in Week 2, but Railway City went on to win 6 of their next 8 games after the defeat. Insanity had been equally as hot losing just 1 of their last 7 games prior to the Burger's defeat. 4
10)GLO-BALLS
(6-5-0)
D5Welcome to the Rankings Glo-Balls! A pre-season, Division 5 darkhorse, the Glo-balls have emergerged as a legit contender as the season progressed. Winners of 4 of their last 6, their only defeats in that stretch were each of the 1-run variety against the Tailgators and Misfits. A victory over the Oddballs on Sunday will propel them to a 7-5 final record and a 2nd place finish. A victory will also set the Balls up as the top team in Group B for the City's, positioning themselves to earn a bye to the Championship Semi-Finals- if they can continue their winning ways in the round robin. While they have yet to beat the Gators, both games have been extremely close. For this squad, a final win in the Championship game would be just too good!NEW-
On the Cusp: Pirates, Dirt & Diamonds, Brokebat Mountain, Smash N Dash, & B.P.Ballers.
